7 tips for parents to guide the child in fasting.

1) Practice fasting among your children

It is not easy for a young child to practice fasting. However, parents need to play their role to encourage them in fasting. You may start them with fasting for a few hours and once they get more comfortable with it start it from 3 hours to 5 hours and from a half-day fast to a full day of fasting.

2) Healthy and well present the food

Cook their favorite food with minimal sugar and salt added.

3)  Set a rewards system

Parents may give them chances to set their goals in fasting. As an example week, How many days would they want to try fasting in a week? Or how many hours a day? So take note of that and give them rewards on the day of fasting.

4) Record their fasting progress.

A good bonding and relationship between parents and their child are important. Record the day your child fasting and show them the progress.

5) Prepare food together for Suhoor and Iftar

Get our kids involved in the everyday process during Ramadan whether it’s waking up for suhoor or helping set the table for iftar.   So they will learn the purpose of fasting effectively.

6) Teach them why we fast

Teach your children the purpose of fasting and tell them sunnah we can do. Give to the poor people as it is Sunnah especially in Ramadan holy month. Teach them to eat dates and drink milk during suhoor.

7) Present as a role model.

As a parent, you must be a good role model to your children, especially in educating them for Ramadan. Thus, they will do what we do, and they would strive to be able to achieve greater fasting goals. Be kind, share with them and show them how it’s done!
